St Patricks day / Maerzbesuch

Fangen wir mal mit Paddy's Day an. Edouard hat uns besucht und wir haben zum ersten Mal St-Patricks Day (17. Maerz) in Irland gefeiert. Angefangen hat es wie man es in Irland erwarten wuerde mit Regen... Zusammen mit vielen anderen Ungeduldigen standen wir etwas miesepetrig im Regen und warteten auf den Beginn des St.-Patricks-Zugs.

Trying to immerse as deeply as possible into Irish culture and exploring further fields of their daily life I "shared" the flu virus with (probably) more than 50% of the population the last weeks. But here I am again and there is lots to tell, starting with our first Paddys Day in Ireland. It began how you would expect an Irish National Day to begin - with rain.

So we waited together - slightly moody and unpaitent - with lots of others in windy and wet Shop Street for the beginning of the parade.

Und danach, alle Mann ab in den Pub. Die waren natuerlich schon nachmittags gerammelt voll.

Kommt schon, das Set ist auch fuer Nicht-Surfer superschoen oder? Da packt mich nach nichtmal 2 Wochen zurueck bei den Iren gleich wieder das Fernweh.

So richtig viel Freizeit hatte ich zwar waehrend meines Kurses in der ersten Woche nicht, aber so zwischendurch bin ich mal ein halbes Stuendchen am Meer Frische Luft schnappen gewesen und hab den Ausblick auf Lobos und Lanzerote genossen

In der zweiten Woche hat mir Vince dann ein bischen Gesellschaft geleistet. Ich hab in der ersten Woche ein bischen rangeklotzt damit wir auch ein bischen Zeit zusammen verbringen koennen, aber eigentlich hatte Vince mal wieder nur eines im Kopf: klar, surfen. Und bei den Preisen konnte er nicht widerstehen und hat gleich erstmal zugeschlagen - neues Board inklusive Taeschken.

In the second week Vince joined me - though all he had in mind was surfing, as usually. He couldn't resist the low prices and got himself a new board straight away.

The experienced bodyboard crew at El Muele consisted of a bunch of "soon-teenagers" who welcomed Vince warmly and didn't seem to bother a lot for the age difference or a foreigner sharing their surf ground.

So, wie gesagt, ich war mal wieder in meinem Lieblingskontinent unterwegs. Diesmal war ich in Corralejo (Fuerteventura) um meinen Divemaster zu machen. Um gleich mal dem naechsten Gedanken vorweg zu greifen - nein, das war kein Urlaub. Um hier beim Arbeiten unter Wasser versichert zu sein haette die Uni gerne mindestens das "Divemaster-Brevet" von jedem der da mit Scuba unterwasser rumwerkelt. Deshalb habe ich ja in den letzten Wochen schon so rangeklotzt und Rescue Diver und EFR gemacht. Ich bin mir im Nachhinein nicht so ganz sicher ob ich das alles gemacht haette wenn ich gewusst haette was da auf mich zukommt. (Von dem Programm hatt ich vorher komplett keine Ahnung.) Aber was solls, ich habs geschafft - vermutlich eher nicht ohne die Hilfe von Patricia (rechts), Geraldo (links) und Marta (war grad nicht da, als das Photo gemacht wurde). So hat es sogar noch Spass gemacht. - ja, geb ja zu, das Wasser war auch mal 10C waermer als hier... (o.

Ueberhaupt kann ich Euch den Divecenter Corralejo echt nur waermstens empfehlen falls Ihr mal vorhabt Euch den Norden von Fuerteventura unter Wasser anzuschaun.

Back again. I was 2 weeks on the Canaries - to be exact Corralejo, in the North of Fuerteventura. Due to insurance requirements, here in Ireland, I need at least the level of a divemaster to dive for work. Since in touristic places they have as well the facilities - yes, and the warm water (about 10C / 18F) to be able to do it as quickly as possible I decided to do the course over there. I know what you think... - no, it was not a holiday. If I had known the program before I'm not sure whether I would have started all the courses (also the Rescue diver and EFR in February) in the first place. Well, now it's done and thanks to Patricia (right), Gerardo (left) and Marta (not on the Photo) the course did not just end successfully (yeah... with me being a divemaster now ((((o: ) but I also spent a really good time. So, if you are thinking to go to Fuerteventura for diving I can recommend you the Divecenter Corralejo.
